I asked my followers recently on Instagram to name their favorite Basque restaurants in the United States. We’ve been talking a lot about Basque food over there, so I was curious to know where people like to eat.
And with over 100 comments on the post, it looks like you guys are passionate about this topic!
Some of you suggested I make a list of Basque restaurants all over the U.S. Since I aim to please, today I’m doing just that!
I included your recommendations and researched other restaurants to make a complete list.
There are already some lists of Basque American restaurants on Buber’s Basque Page and Euskal Kazeta, but things change fast in the restaurant industry. Some new restaurants have popped up and others have closed.
So here’s the 2019 update on restaurants serving Basque food in the United States. Some serve traditional Basque American boarding house style dinners, while others just have a few Basque dishes for you to try.
If there are any restaurants on the list that intrigue you, I encourage you to visit their websites and check out their menus.

The overland hotel in fallon is no longer a Basque restaurant its turned into a steak and burger only.
Oh no, what sad news! Thanks for letting me know though. Their website says they serve Basque family style dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 5-9PM. Maybe it’s an outdated website?

My all-time favorite was the Winnemucca Hotel, sadly closed. The only bar (well, no, there is one in W Texas) with a walk-in safe ensuite. I did eat at Piperade in SFO 4 years ago: very good, but “upscale” never quite sits right with Basque food . . . . I prefer the family-style leg-o-lamb steaks and sirloins w/ frites and vinaigrette salade a la Elko.
In any event, I think Basque food in the United States is the closest thing to visiting W mainland Europe to eat.
